3 oil workers injured in western Texas

While accidents in the workplace happen across all industries, the oil industry sees more than its fair share of accidents that leave workers seriously injured. These work-related injuries are especially common in Texas where the oil industry keeps growing and demand continues to rise.

Recently, three oilfield workers in Midland County were injured when a well-servicing unit collapsed while the workers were trying to remove rods out of the hole.

The three of the injured men were brought by the local fire department to Midland Memorial Hospital, and one man who was in critical condition had to be transported to University Medical Center Hospital in Lubbock.

The three workers include a 36-year-old, 38-year-old and 28-year-old, who are all employees of Tec Well Services.

The Midland Fire Department said it received a call around 10:35 a.m. Friday reporting an industrial accident at well-site Benners 37#1 operated by Mid-States Operating Company out of Midland, local news reported.

A witness who was interviewed by local reporters said that he had been driving down the highway near the scene of the accident when he saw the well-servicing unit collapse. He said that one of the workers was conscious and walking around following the accident, but the other two were unconscious.

The witness said that a fourth worker soon showed up at the scene and helped get one of the unconscious workers, who was still hanging from the pulling unit, down to safety.

Accidents like this can happen for any number of reasons and sometimes are the result of negligence on behalf of the employer. If this is the case, the injured workers may be able to bring a personal injury lawsuit for compensation. Some examples of when employers could be partially at fault include accidents contributed to by poor training, poor safety precautions and dangerous working conditions such as poor lighting.

However, it's important to remember that personal injury claims based on negligence need to be filed within one year of the incident causing injury in Louisiana and within two years of the incident causing injury in Texas.
