Flatbed trailer hauling drilling truck struck by train

Trucking can be a dangerous business, with accidents often having disastrous results due to the sheer size and weight of tractor-trailers and 18-wheelers. Luckily, this was not the case when a freight train struck a flatbed trailer last week after the trailer got stuck on the train tracks in Crawford, Texas.

The flatbed trailer, hauling a drilling rig truck headed, was struck at a railroad crossing by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train when it became stuck on the tracks. After the driver disconnected the trailer and left the scene to obtain a tractor in order to pull the flatbed off the tracks, the train hit the trailer. While fortunately there were no injuries resulting from the accident, this is not always the case.

Trucking accidents can be the result of many factors, including driver fatigue, inadequate training, reckless driving, overloaded trucks or faulty maintenance of the trucks and their safety equipment.

These accidents result in numerous injuries to other drivers and their passengers every year. Authorities on the scene of the flatbed trailer accident did not say whether any of these factors played a role in last Friday's accident.

The truck driver and freight train engineer in this case were not injured, and due to the circumstances of the accident, there were no other drivers present, so it was fortuitous that there were no major injuries or deaths resulting from the accident. However, many times accidents involving such large vehicles can result in tragic injuries and even death.

Trucking accident victims are often entitled to compensation for their injuries, including medical costs, lost wages and even compensation for non-economic damages such as pain and suffering.

If you or someone you know has suffered injuries as a result of a trucking accident, it is important to seek help from experienced legal counsel in your area in order to find out if you are entitled to compensation.
