Worker injured in explosion near Texas pipeline

Explosions and fires are common occurrences during the construction of pipelines, which is why pipeline workers are frequently injured on the job. Recently, a pipeline worker suffered minor injuries when explosion occurred near a natural gas pipeline 11 miles east of Canadian, Texas.

According to reports, the fiery explosion occurred as crews were working on a pipeline that had been shut off. A local sheriff said some residual gas got sucked into the running engine of a track hoe, which caused an explosion and fire that burned the track hoe and three service trucks.

Apparently, the worker who was hurt suffered only minor injuries and was able to be treated and released from the hospital the same day. Denver-based Presser Construction Inc. said it is inspecting the accident. It is likely that OSHA will also be called in to conduct an investigation at the work site.

Thankfully, only one worker appears to have been injured and his injuries seem to only have been minor. Even so, the worker will likely be able to collect workers' compensation benefits for his medical bills and any wages he loses as a result of the accident.

After any on-the-job injury, it's extremely important to file a report with management documenting the accident. Sometimes, injuries do not develop until later on, and by that time it can be hard to prove that the injury originated with a workplace accident.

When workers' compensation claims are disputed, an experienced attorney can advocate for your rights throughout the administrative proceedings, judicial proceedings and appeals, if needed.
