Lawsuit filed after Texas oilfield workers killed in crash

Most people know that oil and gas workers in Texas are exposed to dangerous workplace conditions, but many assume it's because of the heavy machinery and explosive material found at drilling sites.

However, in May we wrote about a New York Times article exposing that highway crashes on the way to and from job sites are actually the No. 1 cause of fatalities in the oil and gas industry.

A recent lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, is a tragic example of this. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed in connection to an August 2011 fatal accident that took the lives of two oilfield workers.

A recent lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, is a tragic example of this. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed in connection to an August 2011 fatal accident that took the lives of two oilfield workers.

The workers were passengers in one of their employer's trucks when it crashed on the way to their job site at an oilfield. Family members of one of the workers who were killed sued the employer, an oilfield service company, alleging that negligence was to blame for the accident.

According to the lawsuit, the accident occurred when the driver of the company pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle at high speeds and in dense fog when it was hit head-on by an approaching semi-truck.

The lawsuit states that the employer, Great White Pressure Control and Great Energy Services, is responsible for negligence on behalf of the driver as well as its own negligence, including failure to select, train and supervise co-employees.

The lawsuit, filed on June 27, seeks an unspecified amount of damages for bereavement torment, mental anguish, pecuniary damages, inheritance, maintenance, and support, exemplary damages, interest, court costs, and attorney's fees.
