Construction accident at Texas A&M leaves four injured

A construction accident at the Texas A&M University equestrian center left four workers injured over the weekend. Three of the workers are said to have suffered critical injuries when a barn frame collapsed down on them. The construction was part of an $80 million project at the school's equestrian complex, which is about a mile off the main campus in College Station, Texas.

Following the workplace accident, which occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday, the injured workers were transported to area hospitals for treatment. It took emergency workers a while to locate the workers because a search had to be temporarily suspended out of fear of another building collapse, a statement from the College Station Fire Department said. The statement indicated that the search was continued once the 300-foot barn structure had been stabilized.

Officials are now trying to determine the cause of the collapse. The contractor on the job, where ground was broken last year, is Gamma Construction Company, which has offices in Houston and San Antonio. If safety hazards are determined to have contributed to the accident, the company could potentially face OSHA fines and liability in personal injury lawsuits.

Oftentimes, construction workers who are seriously injured in workplace accidents choose to work with experienced personal injury lawyers who can throughly investigate the cause of the accident and hold responsible parties accountable for damages. It's only fair that injured construction workers get the compensation they are entitled to after suffering physical and emotional injuries.

Depending on the circumstances surrounding the construction accident, the injured worker may be entitled to compensation under his state's workers' compensation program, or a negligence or products liability theory.
