Man killed when forklift drops truck at Amarillo worksite

A worker was killed in a tragic worksite accident in Amarillo this week. According to the Associated Press, a pickup truck that was being worked on at a wrecker service fell loose from the forklift that was hoisting it, dropping on top of workers below.

One man was killed, and a woman suffered serious injuries. She was transferred to a hospital in critical condition following the workplace truck accident.

Exactly why the forklift dropped the truck is not clear. A thorough investigation will need to take place to determine how this happened. In some cases, industrial equipment fails because it is defective or in poor repair. In other cases, those using industrial equipment have not been properly trained, or other safety measures are not in place.

Depending on the cause of a work equipment accident, victims and their loved ones may have different legal options in Texas. Whether employers, independent workers or manufacturers of equipment should be held accountable depends on the circumstances and causes of an accident.

Injured workers, and the loved ones of those killed in workplace accidents, may be able to obtain compensation for funeral or medical expenses, a lost source of income, emotional trauma and more. Of course, no amount of compensation can replace a life that has been lost in a tragic workplace accident. It is important, nonetheless, that those who lose loved ones in workplace accidents do not suffer financial burdens as a result. It can also be critical to hold those who caused such accidents responsible in order to prevent additional tragedies.
