Investigators: Box not secured to forklift in fatal fall on TX site

Construction accidents in Texas often leave workers and their families unsure of where to turn. While workers' compensation offers coverage of lost income, medical bills and other costs, many employees and contractors throughout our state are not covered by workers' comp. When a workplace accident causes serious injury or death, workers or their families need to be aware of their legal options for obtaining compensation, either through workers' comp insurance or a third-party claim.

Recently a 35-year-old man's life was cut short after a construction site fall in Tyler, Texas. He was working on a new hotel in the area when he tried to move through a third-story window into a kind of wooden box supported by a forklift. The box was apparently not secured to the forklift and fell to the ground. The worker was killed instantly.

After the arrival of police and firefighters, workers on the site were reportedly given permission to move the remnants of the broken box into a dumpster. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also notified of the fatal accident, and work at the site was stopped indefinitely while OSHA investigates.

A local news article has more on the details of this tragedy.

Construction workers understand that every day on the job poses a risk of injury. In many cases, however, nothing could have prepared workers or their families for the devastating consequences of a construction accident.

If you or a loved one has suffered a catastrophic work-related injury, then please know that you have legal options for receiving the compensation you need and deserve. For more on these matters, you can visit our construction accident overview.
