Worker killed in equipment accident on Texas drilling site

After injurious work accidents, it's common for the employer or the company responsible for the work site to issue a statement saying that the safety of employees and contractors is the company's top priority. It is also common for subsequent investigations to reveal that employers failed to take the necessary steps to keep workers out of harm's way.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the circumstances of a fatal work accident at an oil drilling site north of Amarillo. Apache, based in Houston, operates the site, and the man who died was working for a company called Redneck Services.

The 42-year-old contractor was reportedly digging a spill-control ditch around the drilling rig when his leg became caught in the digging machine. Medical personnel were called, and the man was treated at the scene, but sadly he died there.

The accident is being investigated by OSHA and Apache, which released a statement saying that the company's top priority is the safety of contractors and employees.

Investigations of fatal workplace accidents typically take a number of months to complete, and the families of deceased workers are often left with more questions than answers. Even when safety violations on the part of an employer are shown to have been the cause of an accident, the employer is likely to deny liability. Families faced with this difficult situation need a strong legal advocate on their side.

In addition to death benefits through workers' compensation, families may be entitled to compensation through a claim of wrongful death. To learn more about these matters, please visit our workers' compensation website.
