Houston trench accident leaves construction worker with broken leg

Trench work on construction sites is dangerous work. If you're working down in a trench, then you likely have tons of earth surrounding you, and cave-ins are a very real and terrifying possibility. There may also be heavy equipment nearby that, with one wrong move, could seriously injure you. Falls are also common causes of injuries when workers are down in a trench.

A worker in east Houston recently endured what must have been a painful and frightening ordeal after suffering a leg fracture at the bottom of 10-foot trench. He was unable to get himself out, and emergency response crews were called in to rescue him.

The man had to be strapped to a backboard and slid out of the trench on a ladder. A news video captured moments from the tense rescue. The worker was hospitalized, and a reporter said his condition has been stabilized.

Serious construction accidents can not only cause a lot of pain and prevent you from returning to work; in some cases, a harrowing work accident may also result in mental health issues, such as post traumatic stress disorder.

Whether you're filing an injury claim through workers' compensation or a lawsuit alleging negligence, it is important to account for all of the damages caused by the accident. Often insurance companies offer initial settlements that don't cover the full cost of an injury. An experienced work injury lawyer can help ensure that all of your damages are accounted for and that you receive the maximum in compensation.
