Police: Bystanders safe, but 10 workers injured in Texas ammonia leak

Toxic exposure is unfortunately a common occurrence in a number of industries in Texas. Often chemical plants are to blame for putting workers in harm's way, and in some cases, the chemical leak goes beyond the facility's premises and causes injury to bystanders.

Police in North Texas say that bystanders are safe from a recent ammonia gas leak at the Agrium Inc. chemical plant, but the gas release left 10 employees with injuries. All of the workers had to be transported to area hospitals by helicopter and ambulance.

Injurious gas leaks are caused by a variety of factors, including poor equipment maintenance, inadequate training of employees, failure to provide appropriate safety gear, and defective parts or machinery. If you are an employee or bystander who has been injured because of a leak at a chemical plant or other industrial facility, then you may need to explore your legal options for obtaining compensation for medical bills, lost work time, rehabilitation and other expenses related to your injury.

Chemical companies tend to have significant resources to deny liability claims in the wake of an industrial accident, and victims of these incidents need strong legal representation to ensure that they receive due compensation. Toxic exposure can have lifelong health consequences, and injured workers and their families deserve to be financially compensated when accidents are caused by employer negligence.

Likewise, bystanders who are injured by chemical leaks should have a legal advocate who is familiar with these kinds of cases. For more on these matters, please see our previous post, "Work accidents also threaten bystanders in Texas."
