4th fatality reported in Louisiana pipeline blast

Answers regarding the cause of a deadly gas explosion that happened in Terrebonne Parish earlier this month continue to be slow in coming. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the human toll from the tragedy. Officials in Louisiana recently confirmed that a fourth person died this month from injuries suffered in that blast.

As we shared in a post on Oct. 9, three workers at the Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Co. operation in Gibson died instantly. Two others suffered critical injuries. Officials now say that one of those two men died of his injuries on Oct. 12. The status of the fifth individual is not being made public. He is said to have suffered life-threatening injuries, but there's no word on his condition.

Initial reports the day after this disaster were sketchy. Officials reported then that the plant was not in operation and they said it did not appear that the pipeline had ruptured. As of last week, the suspicion among company officials was that the blast source was a tank that collects hydrocarbons that can build up in natural gas pipelines. But more than three weeks out from the events, they say the investigation is still ongoing.

It is apparent from the latest reports that the suffering of loved ones of the victims is ongoing, too. One of the dead men leaves behind five children and a wife of only a few months. Another leaves a widow and two youngsters. The third had a wife, three children of his own and two stepchildren. Four children survive the latest victim.

As one bereft father put it in a Facebook post, "My heart is torn into many pieces."
