Personal Injury Compensation
Many clients have questions about what personal injury compensation can actually cover. Attorney Michael E. Shelton can pursue damages to cover lost wages, medical expenses, and emotional pain and suffering. Compensation is intended to cover current expenses to date, as well as any expected financial impact on the client in the future.
In a catastrophic personal injury case, a person has a right to recover for their loss of wages from the time they were injured up until the time the case was resolved, either by trial or settlement. They have a right to recover for their medical expenses, hospitalizations, doctor bills, canes, crutches, braces, therapy, pharmacy bills, anything medically related to the injury. A person also has a right to recover for their pain, suffering, mental anguish, just the hurting and worrying that go along with being catastrophically injured. Into the future for an injured person's lifespan, they are entitled to recover for their future pain and suffering, disfigurement, if that's a part of their injury, their future loss of wage earning capacity. If they cannot return to the normal job they were doing at the time of the injury but have to take lower paying job, they're entitled to recover for that loss of income. They're also entitled to recover from future medical expenses for the balance of their life, whatever that may be.
